Honoring History: New Rigging for the Pearl Harbor Memorial Mast
On January 17, 2025, a dedicated group of community members—Greg Scott, Rick Rice, Dave Waldschmitt, and Cecil Pearson—came together to install new rigging and a solar light on the Pearl Harbor Memorial Mast in Library Park. Their hard work and commitment ensure that this important monument remains well-maintained, standing tall in honor of those who served and sacrificed.
The Pearl Harbor Memorial Mast is a cherished landmark in Lakeport, serving as a solemn reminder of the events of December 7, 1941, and the bravery of those who defended our nation. Over time, its rigging had begun to wear, making this restoration effort both necessary and deeply meaningful.
Greg, Rick, Dave, and Cecil braved dizzying heights, working together to complete the installation with precision and care. Their efforts not only preserve the structural integrity of the mast but also demonstrate the power of community spirit and respect for history.
The Rotary Club of Lakeport and the greater Lakeport community extend heartfelt gratitude to these men for their time, skill, and dedication. Thanks to them, this tribute to our veterans and fallen heroes remains strong, reminding all who visit Library Park of the sacrifices made for our freedom.
Next time you’re at the park, take a moment to look up at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Mast, standing proud with its fresh rigging—a symbol of remembrance, resilience, and community.
